Overview

The Ipsosis of Timiou Stavrou of Fithkias Chapel, perched atop the Fithkias Hill, is a contemporary structure built in 1980. Its barrel-vaulted interior is graced by stunning, modern wall paintings. A towering 25-metre cross stands on its southern side, visible from far and wide. Every year, the chapel celebrates the universal feast of the Raising of the Holy Cross on September 14th. In 2010, a monument was erected nearby to honor the bravery of the Greek soldiers who lost their lives in the Balkan Wars of 1912-1914, including the village's hero Michael Stivaros. The church is a popular resting place for pilgrims en route to the Kykkos Monastery, as well as for travelers from abroad. During the summer months, a kiosk is open to serve visitors.
